Review of Pakistani Film Dukhtar



Dukhtar is a recently released Pakistani film. The English word of Dukhtar is Daughter. This film has been directed by Afia Nathaniel. Starts of this film are Mohib Mirza, Samiya Mumtaz, Asif Khan, Saleha Aref, Samina Ahmad and Ajab Gul. This film is about a mother and a daughter who left their home to save the 10 years old daughter from arranged wedding with the tribal leader. The premiere of that film was disclosed on 5th September at the Toronto International Film Festival 2014. The film was released on 18 September 2014 by Geo Films. Shooting of Dukhtar was totally carried out in the northern areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, including the areas like Hunza, Gilgit, Skardu, Kallar Kahar and Ghizer.
Generally, Dukhtar received positive reviews all over the world and has been chosen as Oscar consideration in category of Best Foreign Language Film on the 87th Academy Awards. This movie has also scheduled for premieres of London Film Festival, Busan Film Festival, Sao Paulo International Film Festival and Films from South. On 24 June 2014, it was declared that the local distribution rights of that film have been obtained by Geo Films. Funds for making this film have been provided by Norway’s Sorfund after several years of requests. On delaying of finance, director said that the film industry of Pakistan is in disaster and the investors wishes to see the Masala Movies with females wearing short dresses moving and dancing on screen.
Writer of this film Mohsin Hamid said that Dukhtar is the impressive and wonderful movie which illustrates that how rapidly the cinema of Pakistan is making progress. Samina Peerzada said that the little actress Saleha is a born star. Winner of Academy Award Sharmeen Obaid said this film has set the new standard in the making of Pakistani film. The powerful narrative of film is fulfilled with the equivalent powerful visuals that jointly show the talent in Pakistan. No doubt its story will boom with the people both locally as well as internationally.

A well-known actress Meesha Shafi admired the movie, director and actress. Producer of film Iram Parveen said, the story of this film is told with the striking visual images, perceptive characters and mainly important with the heart. Maliha Rahman has reviewed the movie for Dawn Newspaper by saying that the title of this film is easy to understand for everyone. Maliha has criticized the casting of Mohib Mirza by saying that his Punjabi pronunciation is artificial and he does not look like a truck driver with his shiny straight hair.
